Making of this digital artwork:
‘‘Westerkerk Zonder Toren’’ is an artwork that I made out of a photograph, that I took of this same spot in Amsterdam when I was there in 2024.
I used Photoshop as well as Picsart pro to edit/remove elements, insert new self-made elements and free draw with stock brushes and color filters.
The video above shows me using Picsart Pro with the stock black brush in 30% to cover the missing roof.
I’m drawing with the canvas zoomed in 500% and slowly brushing until a solid space is formed before zooming out to 100% and ending the video.
The gear I use is 4k60 so the video is as well.
Inspiration:
I was in Amsterdam during summer of 2024 and I took several pictures of the Westerkerk.
One of them served as the canvas for this artwork.
There’s something about the box and the bike that lured me right in.
The flowers, the gigantic round, white windows.
Why is there no tower?
The original photograph was taken in summer 2024 and at this time, the tower of the westerkerk was going through repairs. Big blue curtains and scafolding wrapped a good percentage of the tower, making the photograph a bit of a work-in-progress.
I thought: ‘‘What if I remove the tower?’’ I loved the result so I kept it for the final version of the art.”
