”I can’t believe my eyes. In almost 33 years living in this planet have I ever seen such a creature.
It was a regular day like any other, except it wasn’t anymore as soon as I stepped inside of that bathroom 5 minutes ago.
I quickly noticed a very large ant of about 3 centimeters which is rare in these parts, trapped in a tiny spider’s web and I was instantly puzzled by that. That the tiny spider, with maybe 1/4 the size of that ant, was in full control of the situation, simply watching that ant struggle for its life like it was a private show.
At first I thought: ”It’s the spider’s merit to have that ant trapped in its web.” But then I started to hear a clicking sound, like a nail clipper’s- over and over again, coming from the ants’ body while it struggled, fully stuck.
I found that strange- I had never seen any ant make that sound before. In a moment of commotion I judged that this ant was too large for that minimal spider and that I should do the right thing and release it. As I unstuck it from the web I heard a crackling sound, like flames to paper or something very similar to that.
The ant was finally free from the spider’s grasp, now released from the web structure and sitting on the floor, its legs still stuck. I went ahead to remove the remainder of the web when the ant turned against me and clenched its mighty jaw against my finger and I heard this loud ”click sound” again, but alas, the ant had pressed the small edge of my fingernail and I was ”saved”. But in shock I immediately threw the ant on the ground and decided that it was too large, too strong and a menace, in my house.
I fell in a type of deep philosophical questioning right then: ”What an ungrateful ant! I should’ve left it there where it was; Now I see the mistake I committed against that poor spider, who effectively trapped this menace in its web, and I was the fool who ran out to release it!”
But the large jaw of the ant and that loud clicking sound continued while the ant still struggled with the leftover web sticking its legs. So I made a second judgment and said to myself: ”This ant has to go.”
So I grabbed a large nearby brush and attacked it, and made sure to press that brush as hard as possible against the floor where that ant was. I felt an instant relief.
But to my surprise, the ant was still whole, still moving and it seemed as if my heavy attack against it had done zero damage.
In shock again, I attacked it another time, with more force. Skeptical, I pulled the brush and it was still alive and moving as if nothing had ever happened, and now it had less web sticking its legs than before. In awe I hit that brush with certain disgust on that ant another 2 or 3 times and I knew that there was no way it could still be alive…
…And yet it was. It was as if none of my attacks had any effect against it. But I noticed that the more I hit it, the more loose it was, and now it was on top of the brush, almost completely loose, standing on the very tip of that long rod like a champion.
My jaw dropped and I was immediately struck by fear. An ant of 3 centimeters survived 5 heavy attacks of a large human. ”How is this even possible??!!” I asked myself, frozen in place.
My brain quickly processed all that I had just seen under the last 2 minutes and I decided that this ant was no common ant. It was a something like a Super Ant. It made me feel several emotions, and that alone, for such a minuscule creature is a massive feat… but the strangest thing is that I suddenly felt an unshakable respect for that ant’s impossible resilience.
I carefully took that brush as the ant stood still on top of its rod and I threw it outside, as far as I could from my doorstep, hoping that it never returns to my house. I write this now still in disbelief, stricken by the fear of that possibility.
A Super Ant exists… …and I have witnessed it in this very day.”
